While the presidential debate was still going on on Tuesday, pop star Taylor Swift publicly backed Kamala Harris for vice president. Swift shared a long Instagram story with a picture of herself holding a cat as a response to JD Vance’s comment about her being a “childless cat lady.” She then backed Harris. Swift told her fans that they had to make their own decision and learn more about the subject.
“Like many of you, I watched tonight’s discussion. Now is a great time to learn more about the problems and how these people feel about the things that are most important to you if you haven’t already. Before I vote, I make sure to read and watch as much as I can about their plans and ideas for this country,” she said.”
Swift then talked about a story about how Trump shared AI photos of her wrongly supporting him. She said it made her think of her “fears around AI and the dangers of sharing misinformation.”
“It made me realize that I need to be very open about what I really want to do as a voter in this election.” Telling the truth is the easiest way to fight false information,” she said.
She said she was going to vote for Tim Walz and Kamala Harris, and she praised Walz for “speaking up for LGBTQ+ rights and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
“I’ve thought about it and made up my mind. You are the one who makes the choice and does the study. Not only that, but I want to remind people who are voting for the first time that they need to be registered to do so. Getting out to vote early is also very helpful for me. I’ll put a link in my story to where you can register to vote and find information about early voting dates and times.”
Swift then wrote “Childless Cat Lady” at the end of her post.
